Water Baptism

Ready to take your next step?

Water baptism is a significant step in following Jesus. It’s a public declaration of your faith and a way of saying, “I have decided to follow Jesus.”

At The City Church, we practice water baptism by full immersion, following the example we see in the New Testament.

What is water baptism?

Baptism is an outward expression of what Jesus has already done in your life.

Being lowered beneath the water represents leaving your old life behind, and coming up out of the water represents the new life you have in Jesus.

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that... we too may live a new life.”

Romans 6:4

Baptism doesn’t mean you have everything figured out, and it isn't about being perfect. It’s a step of faith and obedience for someone who has chosen to follow Jesus.

Why Full Immersion?

The word baptise comes from the Greek word baptizō, meaning to immerse or submerge.

Throughout the New Testament, we see people choosing to follow Jesus and then being baptised in water. Jesus Himself was baptised, and He instructed His followers to baptise those who become His disciples.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Matthew 28:19
